The post I had planned for today has taken a little longer than expected, since it is full of lots of brand new drawings, so it will be up on Sunday instead. Right now I want to share with you a glimpse into my design process and a look at what’s next for Sunray Sister…
The first thing is my logo! I have had this little design in my sketchbook for a while, and have since developed it into a hand cut stamp for some of my packaging. Right now I am refining it further to use in all my online banners and possibly on business cards; I can’t decide whether to go full steam with the handmade look and hand-stamp them all, or just scan the drawing and get business cards professionally made. What do you think?
I was really pleased with my hand embroidered motivational brooches, so I am keen to apply this idea to more products, including decorative embroidery hoops and possibly cute zipped pouches too, both using my hand-dyed fabric of course! I’m also tempted to make some bows and scrunchies with leftover fabric as super affordable items to sell at craft fairs.
Do not fear, my dolls have not been forgotten. In order to bring them together with my other ideas however, in the next batch I will be embroidering positive messages into their bodies to bring some cheer to your home or workspace. I can’t wait to finish them!
I’m also planning some smaller ‘baby dolls’, which could potentially be key-charms or brooches as well, or just cute lucky mascots to hang out by your side as you work on those big dreams.
These hand painted wooden brooches turned out better than expected, so I have ordered lots more wooden blanks to get painting in similar designs, as well as some cute variations. Maybe a Christmas theme one? It could even be a tree decoration!?
As well as small accessories and decorations, I will be branching into illustrated flat items soon. This means handmade notebooks, home printed zines and maybe even some mini painted and collaged portraits on wooden blocks.
Mind maps are a big feature in my idea and development process. To go alongside the notebooks and zines, I would love to create a collection of prints, postcards and greetings cards, as well as stickers.
As you can see, I have a lot of ideas on the go. And I am so excited about all of them! There is a lot of variety, but I feel like they are all tied together by my DIY, handmade outlook with a positive perspective and focus on cute girls faces.
Ultimately I want to create the things that I would love to have, which would help me to stay positive and achieve my dreams. I imagine my customers wearing a brooch like a lucky charm, grabbing a pencil from a case with a positive message, writing an encouraging handwritten message to a loved one in a cute card, while being watched over by a friendly doll mascot. Hopefully we might see one of these ideas come to fruition next week. What would you like to see?
Until then have a lovely weekend and I’ll see you back here Sunday evening for an exclusive set of drawings created especially for this blog exploring the things that make me happy.
Peace and love
